What is the Forging Partnerships Program?
The Forging Partnerships Program was a joint initiative of the Natural
Resources Advisory Council (NRAC) and the NSW Government. Over
the four years from 2005 to 2008 the program promoted the development
of practical partnerships for sustainable
management of natural resources – the land and water, the native
animals, trees and vegetation and the landscapes of NSW.
In November 2008 the NSW Government announced the winding up of the Forging Partnerships Program.
The Forging Partnerships
Program assisted people and
organisations in New South Wales to develop partnership
arrangements to improve natural resource outcomes.
NRAC’s Grants Committee oversaw a rigorous
assessment process to ensure the Forging Partnerships Program
objectives were being delivered.
Grants supported a variety of partnership initiatives, including demonstration and innovative
projects, development of joint partnerships, educational activities and
forums, hands-on learning experiences and capacity building to improve
natural resource management (NRM).
Many projects involved partnership with schools,
community groups and Aboriginal organisations that engage people in
natural resource management at a local level. Grant funding was also
provided to sponsor community conferences and forums. In all, $2.1 million was allocated for
82 partnering projects across NSW in rounds 1,2,3 and 4 of the
Forging Partnerships Program. All these projects assist the growth of
sustainable and productive partnerships based on co-operative efforts
to maintain our natural assets.
